Abstract: We selected the ombrotrophic peat deposition in the Tieershahan wetland and used the AMS 14C dating to establish the chronology of the peat deposition. Heavy metal elements, ash flux and grian size were measured. Cu, Pb and Cd which are closely related to the mining and metallurgy were employed to reflect the human activity in the Altay Prefecture, Minusinskaya Kotlovina, Tuva. The results show that the significant enrichment of Cu, Pb and Cd during 5500-2000 cal a BP would be associated with a number of prosperous Brozne-Iron civilization around the Altay Prefecture, Minusinskaya Kotlovina and Tuva. The mining and metallurgical activities during this period could enhance the release of the mineral dust, leading to more heavy metal elements transported into the peat deposit. The abrupt enrichment of Cu, Pb and Cd during 1600-1200 and 1100-700 cal a BP probably related to the large-scale development of the Western Regions in Tang dynasty and mining and metallurgical activities of Karahan Kingdom, respectively. The rapid increase of Cu、Pb、Cd contents in the surface of peat deposition were resulted to the modern large-scale economic development in North of Xinjiang area.
